Well, my "difficult" nursery worker quit on me. Or else I let her go. I'm really not sure. She’s all upset – she doesn’t want to “chance” coming in if the air fresheners are going to be in there. I told her, “What I think I’m going to do then is release you for now from working in the nursery, and thank you for the job you’ve done - this was a decision that our pastor and board made, and they are working on a better solution, but something does need to be done about the smell that’s been in there…”
She said, “Well, if there is something causing an odor, the best thing to do is to remove what’s causing it.”
Remove BABIES from a NURSERY? Okay…
Before I could respond, she basically said that she’s sad because she’s been doing this since 2000...but she understands...thank you...and goodbye. And hung up on me. But SP had already told me to just release her - that he thought she was just looking for a reason to be done.
Yesterday at church, while I was looking for our techie (because our kids' church computer was freezing up and acting like it was going to crash!), I was accosted by a.) a man whose five year-old daughter does not want to come to kids' church and he can't figure out why...resulting in a mini "pep talk/counseling session" with him, AND b.) the head of our greeters' committee complaining to me about how the nursery schedule conflicted with her greeters' schedule once! Apparently "we have a problem." No...my coordinator made a mistake! I have not been here long enough to have an ongoing problem of any kind...and our coordinator has been doing the schedule for even less time than I've been here!!!
Back to the computer issue: They had to run a "defrag" program on it, which rendered it almost unusable for both services, so I had to pretty much "wing it." For the thousandth time, I praised God for my theatre degree, because it provided me with useful improvisation skills, and no one (other than DH and our leaders, who knew what was up!) even figured out that something was wrong...but it was draining nonetheless!
And it's only Monday!!! On the bright side, I can fit into a pair of jeans that had not fit me since last January. They're still a bit snug in the hips, but I can get them on AND they look good, lol!
Wowwee...you had quite a day. Mondays are always hard for me. Tiring (already exhausted from Sunday). We have staff meeting which is always good. But other than that, it's a major catch up day and I usually don't leave til' real late.
Days like this make me doubt the wisdom of choosing Friday as my day off . Monday is "zombie day" for me. I get work done, but nothing of substance. Lots of organizing, filing...things that need to be done, but are sort of mindless!
But I'm still happy to have "regular" ministry issues to deal with, and leadership that backs me (PW said the same thing I was thinking: "So, she wants to get rid of all the babies?!?!?!").
Life is good - even a bad day here is better than a good day at my last church. But I'm ready for a bubble bath, a good book, and I think Delilah may still be on!
What a day. I've never had a computer at church. The churches where I've worked have always been very small. I'm just glad when they have a sound system that works through the entire service. (not joking!)
But, it would be fun to flash pictures on a screen when I'm talking help kids understand--adults,too. I was explaining the Trinity to a group of new believers recently. I explained the H20, ice, liquid, steam. It would have been so cool to have a visual of those. That would have stuck so much better.
You are so blessed to have a church with a budget for those kinds of things.
But, back to topic. Monday is always my "down" day and it is always the day people call to ask questions. "What did you mean when you said...?" No wonder we often take Monday as a day off.
