You know what freed me? I only have to eat right and exercise today. The one day God gave me is the one day I take care of myself. I only have to do it one day. Drag my butt to the trail and hit the weights just for one day.
I did ww a few years ago, lost 60lbs and gained it all back. I got scared of being successful. I've been overweight all my adult life. I have no idea what it is to live as a thin person and that thought scared me and I retreated.
I've told myself, naw -- we ain't running skeered no more! I am SO doing this. One day at a time. It really is freeing. I don't think about two weeks from now, two months from now or even two years from now. I'm living right here, right now.
So I build on the day before. I only have to do this for today.
I make better food choices for just today. And if I'm in a situation where there are no good choices (birthday parties, etc.) I make the better bad choice and move on. No guilt.
I'm also staying away from anything with hydrogenated oils. That stuff will kill you. And I think whoever decided that high fructose corn syrup needed to go in just about every food product should be shot!!! Ok, maybe not shot but a serious beating behind the woodshed would suffice. LOL
I like living this way. With all the new cardio, I can go longer in praise and worship and preaching! The saints better watch out!
Woo-hoo!!! Congrats...that's 28 sticks of butter that you're no longer carrying around!
The other thing I've been doing is taking it 10 pounds at a time. In other words, my "goal" weight is 10 pounds less than I am now. Once I get there, I set a new goal. It's a lot less intimidating than looking at the whole picture!
I totally agree with you on the high fructose corn syrup thing. Another pet peeve: Everything healthy costs more! GRRR...But I guess in the long run it costs less because of lower medical bills, etc. Still, when you're on a budget, it's frustrating!!
On the bright side, DH and I are heading to the Farmer's Market today for some fruits and veggies...hopefully we'll be able to find some good deals there. That's my tip of the day: Farmer's Markets!!! Fun atmosphere...cheap fruits and veggies...free samples of stuff (sometimes)...what's not to love?
Farmers Market...we've got to have one of those someone 'round here. Now that sounds like a wonderful idea. The 99cent only stores carry fresh fruit and veggies now which is cool. I bought two red bell peppers for 99 cents. Ususally those things are a buck each!
My goal this summer is to find the best peach of the season and I don't mean one candied and buried under a flaky crust...LOL!
The perfect peach is firm, but not too firm and sweet and juicy. The kind that leaves you a mess when you're done casue peach juice is everywhere.
I've had some good ones but not that "perfect" peach yet.
Why am I obsessing about a peach...keeps me from obsessing about chocolate cake! LOL! Less calories and more fiber!
End of June/beginning of July...that's when I have the best luck with peaches. And strawberries. Dipped in light cool whip. Tastes like a sinfully delicious dessert, only it's totally not!!!
Sigh. Living in the Midwest has its drawbacks. My favorite fruits are only in season three months out of the year.
If you get a chance, check out the website Getting2Goal.com - it's a weight loss forum that I post on. The "100+ Buddy Board" features a "produce item of the week," and people are encouraged to post healthy recipes they've found that incorporate that item...
