Summer's Coming!

biggrinYAY!  For SUMMER!  So I want to know what are some things you do differently during the summer time in your ministry(ies)??

Here we plan special events such as all church picnics near the lake and family fun time at the local public pool and have cook outs afterward.

OK now it's your turn~  do any ministries take a break and do something different?

Let's have some fun with this and share away...maybe what you do might help someone else in their ministry!

We're trying something different for Wednesday nights in July and August...

We're TAKING TIME OFF!!!!

Our church is insanely busy, and our Wednesday night leaders have never really gotten a break before. Our programs don't meet in August, but it's technically "planning month" so that they can get ready for the new year. This year, we're being encouraged to invest in our leaders and spend time "playing" in July - we'll probably plan in informal potluck picnic for everyone at the beach [we live right next to Lake Michigan], and we always do a nice evening out with our Mpact leaders sometime in July as well.

In other words, we are doing the opposite of what we usually do, and chilling out a little bit.

Of course, we also have, event-wise...

*An all-church picnic in June.
*Our big, blow-out pastors' anniversary celebration [they've been at our church 25 years this year; 20 years as senior pastors] at the end of June.
*Kids' Camp in August
*City of Miracles, also in August [a community-wide festival in the park where we the churches give away free backpacks and school supplies to families who need them...we also give away free lunch, free snow cones and cotton candy, free...you get the idea - everything is free!!!]

We don't really take a break we just do more fun things like picnics and stuff like that.  We are kind of strange in that we actually grow during the summer, historically, in this church.  Attendance is not "up" -- we have many families away each week on vacation and so forth but this is typically a time where we add families during the summer and then see a difference in the fall.

We try to do a lot more social things in summertime.
