There is an evil in middle school that seeks to destroy our daughters. Our daughter who is now a senior in high school finally shared with us the phenomenon that occurred in middle school.
In middle school, peers define one another. Our kids arent in elementary school anymore and theyre not teenagers or high schoolers so it is in middle school where they are defined. And only what their peers say count. Our daughter told us that it does not matter what parents say, what pastors say, what the church saysall that matters is what their friends think about them. So no matter how much you affirm them, for the most part, they dont hear you. You the parent no longer count.
Dear friends of ours also lost their daughter in middle school. We didnt recognize our daughters, the babies we birthed. They became closed, full of attitude and mouthy!
No matter how we preached to be about the books and leave boys alone, it all fell on deaf ears.
Remember when you and I were in middle school? When foolishness ensued, it was over when the bell rang. And the next day more times than not things had blown over. Our kids dont experience this cooling off period. Why? They are constantly connected by cell phone, Myspace and FaceBook. You lose and gain friends, break up with a boyfriend and get another one even when school is out.
We also are fighting music videos and music that is so explicit it will make your toes curl! Our daughters learn to use their bodies as a means to get what they want and its perfectly OK. I know many parents who absolutely loathe the TV show, MTV Super Sweet 16! Fifteen year olds think they are entitled to such lavish affairs and press parents hard to duplicate what theyve seen on TV.
My husband and I did not know what we were fighting against.
We didnt know that middle school pressure was as evil and as strong as it was. Im finding out many a parent saved and unsaved are losing their daughters in middle school.
Save your daughters! Shut cell phones and computers off in the evening. They need to unplug especially if you want to remain an influence in their life. And definitely monitor TV programs! Prayer along with the above actions should hopefully save you from the pain our family experienced.
