Suggestions/Ideas

As most of you know, the past year has been rocky, at best, at our ministry. Well, since God has not sent us somewhere else yet, I am trying to give it 110% while we are here.  We have seen some positive changes, growth, and improvements.  We are trying to create a new atmoshere, you know, a new environment where the love of Jesus is in high gear! My dh and I want to set the tone, so we decided to have a day where we focus on love, and really let our congregation knonw how much we love them. Considering some of things that have happened in the not so distant past, I think that this will be a big step in the right direction.

I am hoping that this does not sound completely corny. Since Valentine's day is coming up in the next few weeks, I want to do something special. My dh and I have tlked about focusing on love for the entire day. We want the message to focus on the agape that God shows toward us, and how we should reflect the God's love in our dealings with others. I want to have what my girls and I have been calling a "Love Party". I want to have a small reception after church on Sunday Feb.13. My daugthers and I plan to make heart shaped and X O (hugs and kisses) cookies and of course my famous red punch. I was also thinking about hear shaped sandwiches. I am not sure if the sandwich shoppe will do this. I plan to check later today.

I already have the decorations (except the fresh rose petals), but I need some ideas. We are going to send invitations to everyone this weekend. I think I have that covered as well. I would like to give everyone a small love gift at the party. My nature would be to hand make or either personally wrap each one. Although this may not be possible, I just can't help wanting to. I also thought about giving a nice basket full of goodies as a door prize.

Ok ladies, let the creativity flow. Let me know what you think, and what ideas you have.

Thanks in advance!

Tausha

What a great idea!  Dove Promises are a fun idea, too.  Maybe sprinkle them on the table or wrap them up in Tulle tied with a ribbon.

How great that you're emphasizing the love of God for V-day instead of making it a "couples" thing!  My mom always gets frustrated when they go on and on about it being a couples event and then say, "Oh, yeah, but singles can come, too."  Her friend - also single - says at those occasions, "Well, I guess it's time for me to pull out my 'I don't need a man to be happy' speech," lol!

Our church is doing a Mystery Dinner based on Clue, so that everyone (we have a lot of single moms in our church) can feel included and have fun...

Puppetmaster,

This may be a silly question, but what are Dove Promises?  Are they a type of candy?

Tausha,

Yes, Dove Promises are a type of candy.  They're made of Dove chocolate and at Christmas they're in the shape of little gifts, wrapped in foil with "Christmasy" sayings on the inside.  During the Valentine's season, they're in the shape of hearts and have "Valentine-y" sayings.  Sort of like little fortune cookies, only they're chocolate!

You can find them at Target or Walmart in the seasonal candy aisle.

Something else I do too is get Hershey Kisses (they have lots of red and pink ones right now) and I get tulle and wrap about 5-10 in there with matching ribbon...very cost effective.  I do these as favors at our banquets.  You could use pink or red tulle, or even white, with a pink ribbon...

Sounds great, I don't think it's corny at all!
