Dropped ball....right on my foot!

Ok I have to vent!  As you know I just had surgery on Wed. on my knee.  I am on crutches and barely able to put any weight on my leg without pain.  I am only able to due to pain meds.  Knowing I may not be able to lead children's church I made sure to to have things taken care of so the kids could still enjoy CC.

Saturday night I was up all night in pain.  So when the sun came up Sunday I was like....Lord I am exhausted, in pain and just don't want to deal with people today but I do want to worship You.  So instead of staying home like I physically needed to I went to church.

During Sunday school I asked the woman who "volunteered" if she was leading children's church and needed anything to help teach children's church.  (I am the children's pastor) She volunteered the week before even took the lesson book.   She looked at me and said,"I hadn't planed on it!"   Hadn't planned on leading????  SHE VOLUNTEERED!

Normally I would have just said ok, fine, the kids can stay in the main service.    And privately fumed.  This time I did not keep the fuming to myself.  When my DH came over and asked if the kids were having CC I looked right at him and said ask.... so and so.  He gave me this weird look, went and asked and came back to me very upset.  He knew I was hurting and knew she had volunteered. This person said she was tired and just couldn't do it.
HELLO!  I was up all night too, in pain and was still in pain!  SO my dh asked me what I was going to do, I told him there was NO way I could not do something with the kids,  we had a visiting family with kids and two other new children that came for service that morning as a result of a snowcone party I held the week before to celebrate the end of school.
SO here I am picking up the ball again...I wish people would not volunteer to do something and then not follow through.  I know give the benefit of doubt but she could have called us earlier that morning to let us know.  At least I would have been prepared.  Instead I had to wing it, while on pain meds and in pain.

Thank goodness I picked up the ball!  The new family was very excited about us having something for the kids.  The new kids 4 total had  so much fun that they were excited about coming back next week.  The new family was very impressed that we had something for their kids to learn about God while having fun. They told us they plan to return.

Just makes me mad that people volunteer and then "don't plan on" following through.   I am so sick of it!  Not sure what mad me madder, the fact that this person didn't follow through or the fact that there was no concern for the kids or the fact that there was no concern about my physically being in pain and shouldn't have even been at church!

Makes me want to scream!!!!  Sometimes I would love to throw the ball back at them.....

Ever been here?

Definitely been there, done that, doing it right now.  I wish I had some encouraging words for you today.  I do know that God is going to reward you for your continued faithfulness to Him & to HIS children.  I'm praying that you'll feel better soon.

been there, done that, bought the tee shirt...

One thing I have learned is that once somebody does that especially more than once, don't count on them for important things.  Use them for small things in the church and that means...

1)  they are still used somewhat in ministry and are not pushed aside but...
2)  they are not used to the degree where the could really hurt the ministry if they didn't show up or do what they said they'd do.

For instance, let's say we are having a dinner and I previously asked someone to cater and they dropped the ball.  That's a HUGE problem. I would not ask them to cater again.

Let's say however that we are having an event and need 10 pans of brownies.  I would ask them in the future to bring one of the 10 pans.  If they backed out, we would simply make the 9 pans stretch further.  However, they would not be in charge of the whole enchilada again.  Know what I mean?

Throw the ball back at them?  Oh good Lord, have I fantasized about it?  Yes, and a lot more than that too.

But usually I get on the ellipitical and work my feelings out or go have a big brownie Sundae if I'm not responding like I should.

Love you sis, hope you are feeling better.
