In memory of a true Lady of Grace

Hi, Ladies:
I just wanted to share with you about a beautiful lady who went to be with the Lord earlier than we here on earth wanted.

Wanda was our District's Secretary/Treasurer's wife.  I've known her for many years, enough to shake hands/hug necks/ask about life, etc.  But I realized on Friday, I missed out on really knowing a true Lady of Grace.

Though her husband's position was public by A/G standards, Wanda never craved the spotlight.  She wasn't fond of being on stage.  When she was introduced & asked to come up, you could tell she wasn't comfortable.  She preferred to be in the back, smiling, welcoming people in her quiet way.

I had known for many years that she was sick, having a heart condition from birth.  The last couple of months, she took a turn for the worst.  And last Tuesday morning, I believe, she went home to be with the Lord.

Dh & I went to her funeral on Friday.  What an impact it made on me.  I have never been to a funeral service feeling as if I'd left a beautiful worship service, feeling God's prick in areas of my life, & knowing that I had missed out on a great opportunity to know someone better.

The ministers shared on her ministry: intercessory prayer. They shared on how she truly would say nothing if she did not have something good to say about a person.  They spoke of her determination to live life, in spite of her illness.  There were times that she spent her energy for the day, just getting dressed & "made up." But that was important to her.  She & Bro. Mark had wanted children for years.  She never gave up the faith.  And about 4 1/2 years ago, they were able to adopt a beauiful baby girl.  And Wanda was determined that her daughter experienced life.

The ministers shared some of her last words, spoken last Monday... "I trusted God.  I don't understand.  But I still trust Him."  What an amazing testimony.

I'm not as computer literate as I should be, but I want to direct you to http://sistersoffaith.blogspot.com .  Take a moment to read the posting on January 24, 2008, from Wanda's notebook.  It was also on the back of her funeral program.  Truly inspiring.

When I think of my mentors in life, the women that I truly respect & those that have impacted my life the most, my list is fairly short... my mother, my grandmother, my best friend, my current boss, PD & you ladies here on the board, and my Superintendent's wife.  I now add one more name... Sis. Wanda.

Please remember her family in prayer. Her husband, Bro. Mark, now has the challenge of being a single father to a 4 1/2 year old little girl.  I cannot even begin to imagine what he's going through.  Please remember him & his daughter, as well as all of the family.

"I trusted God.  I don't understand.  But I still trust Him."

I love you ladies,
Trace

Thank you Trace.  Wow...she was so young.  I understand what you mean about her being such a Godly woman and watching what she said. A deacon woman who passed away about a couple of years ago was just like her.  She was a great Christian to have for a deacon.  I cannot say that for many women but she really had a handle on her tongue. She could keep secrets without a judgmental attitude.  She maintained a peaceful spirit but lead by example.  We became friends more in her latter years; Yes, I only regret that I didn't get to know her sooner!  But there was quite a different age difference and my 3 little ones would have been too much for her! (bless their hearts). Nevertheless, her godly example will also be in my heart.  I want to grow up to be just like her!  And have the sweet marriage she had for 35 years.  Watching them two when hospice was involved was really heart touching. They knew the true meaning of love and respect.  May we all even be careful what we blog!  Bless you.
