There's a blog site right now dealing with the issue of the election of the next A/G supt. Right now there is debate about John Lindell and his views on women in ministry. I posted a long post there and I wanted you ladies who are A/G credential holders or women in ministry/pw's to know what's going on.You may want to post there and make your views known. Basically John is the front runner right now in their unofficial "straw poll" and if indeed hisviewsare that women's leadership in the churchor the fellowship should have limitations, this is a serious implication for our future. Please see the post here...
Pastor D, Worth saying and well said...I read your blog re: John Lindell. I know Dan Betzer and Thomas Trask are strong advocates of women in SP positions or leadership! Pray for them and other great orators like Beth Grant! They will speak up! I believe it.
Lindell is not as high up on the percentage of votes as he was the last time I checked...Wood and Garrison have far surpassed him. (I love both of those guys! Would be happy with either one as our GS!!!)
If you noticed, I just couldn't let the issue go (I feel so passionately about this...) I wrote a few posts on that page.
I added my $.02 to the blog, too!! Not only am I disturbed by this issue, but also by the trend that "younger is always better."
I am only 30 years old, and I'm sorry, but I don't want to just learn from or be led by my peers. I was privileged to be a part of the dedication of North Central University's new chapel, and it gave me chills to see all the graduates of 40 and 50 years ago still standing...still serving God...some of them still in the ministry!
I think we're doing ourselves a huge disservice to assume that we 30-something, Gen-X, children of the 80's are the only ones with anything to offer the Assemblies of God.
And someone who doesn't endorse women at all levels of leadership has no business leading a denomination who, from the beginning, has licensed and ordained women. Without one of those women in the "early days" of the A/G, I may not be sitting here typing this, as my own home church was founded by a female minister!
I read your post on the blog, puppetmaster...it's good. Thanks for going there and putting your $.02 in. It looks like we have some people who strongly agree with us on there.
It's amazing to me that just because a man has built a huge church some are ready to crown him king of the A/G, no matter how he feels about our core values...it is unfathomable to me that they could consider putting somebody in there who doesn't value women in ministry to the highest levels of leadership since our movement has stood for that strongly from it's very inception.
You know that old saying, (can't remember who said it) "All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to say nothing..." Well, let me give my own translation:
All that is necessary for gender prejudice to triumph is for people of God to stay silent."
Anonymous writers are less likely to be quoted out of context leaving less room for slander or the accuser of the brethern to work.
Some people are not as computer savvy. They are new to computer technology. They may not know how blogs work or how google operates. On the future AG blog, it's easier to figure how to write anonymous as opposed to the other.
If the anonymous writer is not "sinning" in their writings there's nothing to be "cowardly" about. Nevertheless, if they are being ugly or sinning, then doing so anonymously would be crafty like Satan and out of order.
Some people are more private than others. Perhaps , like Paul, they are more bold in their writings than in personal conversations. Everyone's got to start somewhere.
One may have a spouse who prefers anonymous entries to "protect" their spouse from "attacks".
And on this post, I prefer anonymous entries because you don't know who you can trust with private or time sensitive information. It protects the innocent. It's a "safe place" to gain insight or prayer without feeling like it's going in one ear and out the other or being spread like a wildfire.
You have a better chance for others to be completely objective because they do not know you or the other's involved personally.
