I have a quick just want to know question. What do you all do with Sat evenings? do you use those evenings to get ready for Sun. worship. Do you have company over?
The reason that I am asking is we usually do something in the afternoons but if I tell people my family needs to be home by 8pm I get the strangest looks. I usually use this time to give the children baths ,get Sunday clothing ready, start Sun. dinner and go to bed earlier(being 7 mos pregant I gotta have some extra sleep lol). I just wondered if anyone else deals with this. My mother-in-law thinks I am wasting a good Sat evening by leaving early. My dh just tells her this is the way it is and we love you.
No dear, you're not weird, you are just family & ministry minded.
We do things on Saturday nights however, we tell everyone we need to make plans early because we have to be as fresh for Sunday as possible. I generally have everything ready to go for Sunday early on, sometimes even by Friday, as far as clothes layed out and ironed, SS lessons/messages ready and all that. But if not, it's priority before getting together with people.
My husband doesn't like to be out late or up too late on a Sat. as it really affects how well both of us do on Sunday.
It's hard for people who aren't in ministry to understand this part of our lifestyle. You just have to explain it as gently as possible and stick to it.
Ralinda, you are not wierd. (However, one could make the argument that all of us who are in ministry are wierd. lol) We also try to use our Saturday evenings to ensure a stress-free Sunday morning prior to arriving at church. My dh usually makes me sit through a preview of the message for the next day, and we discuss the Sunday School lesson. We also make the children go to bed just like it is a school night. We also try not to entertain to many phone calls or visitors on Saturday night.
Our friends ar every understanding. Many of my family members are in the ministry as well, so we hardly ever talk to them on Saturday, usually on Sunday night and again sometime during the week.
LadyT , I think I do remember that God says in His Word we are a peculiar people (hehe). Being "weird or Peculiar" is kinda fun .It keeps people and myself on my toes.
You are not wierd at all! I have struggled with this same issue. My in-laws are 2 hours away in Baltimore. We often have to leave before six because we have to drive all the way home and get us and four kids ready for church the next day. My in-laws are never happy with the eat and run thing, but it's just the way it is. If your mind and heart are unsettled on Sunday morning because of rushing around looking for that favorite dress or the lost shoes, your heart will not be ready for worship, believe me, I know this from my own experience. Our priority has to be getting to worship, especially if you are riding in the same car with the Pastor!; because you're married to him of course. All of my friends have between 3 and 9 kids each! They have the same routine as you do. They cut Saturday short to prepare for worship on Sunday. You are not wierd, you are prioritized!!lw
