We may have found the new ministry we have been praying for. We met a lady the other night at a school function who happens to be the local deaf educator. She said that there is a huge need for christian interpreters here and there are NO foster homes available currently for the deaf so even abused kids are being left at home as the law requires a signing foster parent!
My DH and I signed up and took our first class tonight in sign. Deanna will recall my love for the language and my bent toward helping the deaf from our school days. Pray that all will fall into place if this is his will. The lady we met said it had to be more than chance that we met at this time and both had the same vision for the deaf kids of this county.
This would be a dream ministry for us both. For someone with no practice, Mark took to the language very easily. I am very excited!
Love, Lori

I praise God for your gift making room for you and bringing you before great and mighty people... And I thank God that this gift will make room for others to become great and mighty people!
So, where are you now in deaf ministry? Taking classes?
I'm a hard-of-hearing woman from a family of deaf/hard-of- hearing people. Sign language is tremendous. I use amplification, but it doesn't always work in a noisy environment--then I need sign language to keep me from constantly saying, "What did he say?" "Sorry, I didn't get that." "Please repeat." etc.
Another aspect is deaf culture. Believe me it is different from hearing culture. Study it well in order to be accepted by deaf people.
Blessings as you take up this new, much needed ministry.
We are taking classes on the language and we are learning about the culture as well. We hope to visit a deaf church soon. My friend's daughter works at Galludet college for the Deaf. She said the best way to learn the language is to be around the deaf as much as possible.
Love You, Lori
