I rode with a sheriff's deputy recently. Interesting night--making traffic stops, helping a woman who had hit a deer on the highway, then watching the deputy "dispatch" the dying deer, investigating a call that said, "blood on our mailbox" (it turned out to be catsup!). Got several devotion ideas. Gained tremendous respect for our sheriff's department and the men and women in uniform.
Well, accidentally I discovered that a fellow minister has had his license suspended, and has a warrant out for his arrest because of "failure to appear." I know where the minister is. Should I tell the authorities? Should I talk to the minister? Should I just pretend I didn't discover this piece of information?
Wow-ee. That is a tough one. Obviously you need to pray about how to handle it. But...
One thing to pray about and consider -- how about an "anonymous tip". This way, you would be doing a civic duty in reporting him, however you would not damage your relationship with him because he would have no idea who turned him in.
Yes. This is a tough one. I think when you hear something like this, you automatically think the worst. I know that my dh had his license suspended because he was 2 to 3 days late paying for a speeding ticket. We were new to the area & he got caught in a speed trap. Then, he had a hard time finding the location to pay for the ticket, which turned out to be in a town about 30 minutes away. So, it is possible that the warrant could be for something simple like this. If you knew this to be the case, I would notify the minister to try to avoid public embarrassment.
I agree w/ Deanna. I'd definitely pray about what to do.
