Pants

I have a question that I would like to pose to the group.  Recently I have seen several women preachers/pastors and worship leaders in pants every time I see them on TV.  I do not have a problem with women wearing pants to church.  I wear them myself to Bible study and over events.  But I do not really wear them on Sunday.  I think I have one time, and it was one of the few Sundays that I was not up ministering.

I guess some of what I was taught growing up is still in my head.  We could not wear pants to church at all. They have not loosened up some at my home church.  Women can wear pants to church, but not ministers or choir members, ushers, etc.  I was just wondering what you do personally when you are ministering, whether it's preaching or standing alongside your dh.

Great question.  I was actually thinking about bringing this up the other day.

I almost always wear dresses on Sundays.  I don't often get up in front of the people, but I still try to wear a dress.  I do kids church on Sundays.  I've thought about dressing down some due to Kids Church.  And I have worn an occasional jean dress or khaki skirt, but this is very rare.  I have worn dress slacks the one or two extremely cold Sundays that we get in Florida each year.

On Wednesdays, I teach the 3 to 5 year olds in the back & I wear jeans.  I have a few ladies in the church who always wear dresses.  At first, I did, too as not to offend anyone.  Then I decided to be me & do what I felt comfortable with.

I think pants are ok. In biblical days when a woman was told not to wear mens garments, men and womens clothes were both tunics, dress looking things. You have to understand the history on all of it. So I think as long as you look nice that is the most important. And looking feminine. Now, when your dh wants to wear your dresses to preach in, you gotta problem.

LOL...My DH tries to "make a point" by threatening to borrow one of my dresses and wear it to church...because I'm always raiding his dresser drawers and throwing on his comfy sweatshirts to relax in.  I just tell him I don't wear his clothes to church, so he can stop his whining .

Seriously, though - I feel like as long as a man looks like a man, and a woman looks like a woman, and they're dressed modestly, then there's no problem.  As far as I can tell, that's what the Bible says, too!!

I wear a suit/dress most of the time when ministering with the exception being if I wear a dressy pants/suit.  I do not dress casual when ministering but I do wear pants outfits that are dressy.

I dress in business attire for the office as well.

I dress down outside the church at home and out and about, and also at "casual" church events, like the beach, etc.
