Overspiritualizing - rant!

Anyone else get tired of everything being labeled a "spirit" of this or that, whenever there is a problem?

I mentioned earlier that our YP was prayed for because she's been getting a lot of headaches lately, and this lady said she was being oppressed by a "familiar spirit" that had plagued her family for generations.  Really, it's allergies...but allergy medications knock her out silly, so she was just praying that God would take all her allergies away.  So anyway, there was no taking authority over the sickness, no prayer for healing - but a prayer that the familiar spirit would go away and leave her alone.

She said, "You know, that's kind of insulting to me...satan is sitting around thinking, 'Hmm, how can I take her out?  I know...I'll give her...a headache!'  It's like I'm not doing enough damage in the kingdom of God for him to try anything major, and apparently, that's how he's going to get me to just give up my calling.  By giving me a headache."

My best friend from high school is married with one child, and she doesn't want to have anymore.  Just because she's happy to have one child.  Period.  But her mom came up to me when I was home for a wedding one weekend, and said, "We really need to pray for her, because she has a real "spirit" of fear when it comes to having another child."  Uh...no...she's just chosen not to have anymore kids.

Anyway, I get so tired of people calling everything a "spirit" or trying to be all hyper-spiritual.  I believe that there is a supernatural world, and that there is spiritual warfare, don't get me wrong.  But why can't things just happen sometimes, without people trying to assign some sort of familiar spirit to it? AAGH!

I have voiced to dh so many times that I get sick of this sort of thing! I think things that are truly demonic you know it. Most stuff is flesh. I heard Keith Moore tell this story of a young guy in a class he taught 20 years ago went aroud saying he had a spirit of gluttony and that was why he was 200 lbs over weight. Keith told him, no you dont .You have a problem with your flesh but thru Gods help you can get a grip on it. He saw the guy like 20 years later and didnt recognize him becuase he had lost all that weight by telling himself the TRUTH! It wasnt a spirit. It gets me that people call things spirits that are SPECIFIC and Point blank called works of the FLESH in scripture. Its a spirit in everyone else and a FAULT in me. (If they even acknowledge it at all). I am sorry but where the scripture is silent be silent and dont make stuff up! Its called adding to and that confuses people. Lust is called a work of the flesh. Jesus dealt with demons and he didnt call one of them familiar. He called them religious, and given yes legion could have been many demons that we DONT know the names of but I agree people go over board and you are not alone. Super pseudo spiritual stuff gets on my nerves. I heard this the other day and it stuck with me! "People who act spiritual usually arent". I was like oh boy does that describe some people I know! I do believe satan is behind the origins of sickness (jesus diesd for our sickness and scripture says he came to destroy the works of the devil) but to try and label every attack with a specific devil and not just attack the source of it destracts people and that is the enemy's point. And another sermon real quick. But maybe it will help too. I have heard so much pinned on religious spirits. I have dealt with them and they are tough but not everything is a spirit coming at you. One day the Holy Spirit asked me Did you if you moved to Antartica, where there are NO people, therefore very few to no spirits to deal within the heavenlies, you'd still hear all that junk between your ears because that's exactly where it is? In your mind. Therefore you are being your own worst enemy. It was like someone had turned the light on! I got it and have been working on renewing my mind ever since. I think deception and misunderstanding is a major enemy and I am such a stickler for truth that the super stuff just irks me too. A big amen to your post!

People do not want to accept the blame for their sins and weaknesses so it is much easier to blame it on a spirit that is plaguing them.

So much of what happens is our own fault and has nothing to do with God or the devil.  We are sometimes our own worst enemy.
