I was just curious as to what kind of music you listen to and what do you think about listening to some secular music such as love songs or pop? Sometimes, I'm just in the mood for some good old 50's music or a little bit of...dare I say...Elvis Just wondering what you all think?
I love it all and sometimes like to set my mind toward ... uh well you know..... with a little Celine Dion and when dh hears it going he know he's in for some fun toight. lol
I also like some big band stuff like Sinatra and Nat King Cole and am even starting to like some smooth jazz too (think Cosby show stuff). The bulk of my music is p&w music like Hillsongs or lakewood live, but I have moods for other stuff too. House cleaning days usually call for some good clean country music, my favorite is Martina McBride. Yeah, I'm with you. I like all kinds of good clean music.
Oh gosh, you all may never log on to this website again if I answer this question!
Seriously, in many ways I am so conservative in my biblical views, but in other ways I would be considered liberal and this is one of those areas.
I am not one of those who believes we need to have all things "Christian" and stay away from all things "secular" as so many preach. I do a lot of things that "Pentecostal holiness" people (like I grew up with) would probably be mortified by.........including my 5 earring holes, make up, pants (even when ministering), and -- yes, listening to music that's not always of the Christian genre.
I'm a lover of all kinds of music but by far country is my favorite. I do stay away from the really bad questionable stuff, (I turn the channel if something comes on that is really blatant or that I know is inappropriate).
Hopefully this is not the last time you will log onto this site, but being totally honest, my favorite artists are: Faith Hill, Sugarland, Tim McGraw & Shania Twain. My assistant, Lindsay is totally into the same artists as well and we sing the songs to the top of our lungs on many occasions. Particularly in my Mustang with the top down, and dh looks mortified if we are even near the church parking lot and gives me the eye that says, "get out of here!"
I listen to Christian music, of course and I enjoy many of the contemporary artists. I am primarily into vocal groups who really showcase great voices -- Avalon, POG, and I love David Phelps, and also most of the southern gospel artists which was pretty much what I was raised on and will always love.
What can be heard in my house most times are groups like Third Day and the Supertones who my kids love.
As far as love songs, I do love Celine Dion as well, but my favorite instrumental artists are Eric Darius, who is a member of our church (you can hear him on our church website) and also, I'm crazy about Chris Botti. We used to listen to Kenny G all the time when spending romantic time together, but now most times we listen to Eric, Chris Botti, or we also love Sinatra. We have a lot of his CD's and listen all the time. Our favorite song is, "The Way You Look Tonight." My other favorites are Fly me to the Moon and Come Fly with Me.
I truthfully love all kinds of music. As far as my favorite Christian artist, Amy Grant tops my list and in fact I just bought her 2nd Hymns CD this week.
Oh yeah, the guy on your web site is really good. I listened to it the other day when I was checking our your site the other day. Thought, man he's great.
The group Rasdales, "I'm glad it was you" their brother is a good friend of ours in ministry. They have been to our church in Corinth. Anyway the guys name is John Ragsdale. He said he and his wife Kristen have been ministering to so many musicians in Nashville lately. Ty Herndon received the baptism of the holy spirit a few weeks ago in their home. I thought that was cool. Big country fan too. Grew up on it, ZZ Top and Hewie Lewis and the News
it's so good to hear you say that you listen to various kinds of music too....by far praise & worship is my favourite, but being able to say out loud that yeah, i do enjoy listening to other stuff sometimes too is great b/c i try to be careful when around some of my church folk....i know that they couldn't handle it, if i were to tell them...
we try to allow our girls the freedom to listen to their taste in music as well, within limits...right now my kids our into "Superchic[k]" and "Toby Mac." - not really my style but it's what they enjoy and the lyrics are ok...
Deanna, it's so good to hear a fellow Christian still admit to liking Amy Grant, lol!
She's a personal favorite of mine from way back (I had every single album of hers as a kid; my parents took me to her concert when I was nine years old, because I was such a fan!). My taste in music has changed, so her style doesn't appeal to me as much, but I get so tired of the Christian community basically shunning her because of her divorce and remarriage...Yes, maybe she was wrong, but does that change the fact that her music is still good, and (dare I say it?) much of it is anointed?!?!?
As for me, I like pretty much every kind of music other than polka and death metal . I'm a child of the 90's, so I really get into the alternative sound (Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Asylum, etc.) - although I choose not to listen to it because the lyrics are not exactly uplifting!! I just haven't found a Christian artist who has the "right" sound...I listen to showtunes a lot of the time, probably most of the time!!
my favourite praise and worship is Hillsong, Israel & New Breed...I also love Natalie Grant's Worship & Friends CD, if you haven't heard it, you really should, it is absolutely amazing!!! I really like Lakewood too.
I like just about everything because I grew up listening to Glenn Miller Swing, Hee Haw type music, Lawrence Welk, Boston, sonny & Cher and anything else from the 70's. Big Michael W. Smith and Steven Curtis Chapman fan too. Also Faith Hil and the crew Deanna mentioned too. Especially Lindell Cooley and Mercy Me.
Deanna - My favorite Amy Grant album has got to be a tie between "Lead Me On" and her first Christmas album. But "Unguarded" definitely comes close, too! So many memories attached to that one...after we saw her in concert, my friends and I would pretend to be her and her band, and make my brother shine a flashlight on us while we danced around our family room .
As far as praise and worship music goes, I like the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir and Ten Shekel Shirt. Hosanna Integrity tapes (anyone remember those?) make me smile because I think of my mom when I listen to them - she owns just about every one of them!!
If any of you have teenage kids who listen to Skillet (or if you do yourself!), their song "The Thirst is Taking Over" is another one that gets me completely lost in Jesus!!
I love Lead Me On, too. That's probably my second favorite. I have so many memories attached to Unguarded too. I was in bible college when it came out. My friends and I were crazy about the tape, I mean CRAZY!
I love all of her Christmas albums. In fact I believe they are THE BEST ever. I listen to them like "broken records". ha ha! It's hard for me to pick a favorite but I think the second one is my favorite, the one of her leaning up against the tree on the cover...my mind is blank now as to the title...but it has the song Breath of Heaven on it. I think the orchestration on the whole CD is just breathtaking.
I grew up with Mitch Miller and Lawrence Welk and all that too. My grandparents pretty much had it on non-stop and I like it, but nobody comes close to Sinatra. Little secret here...dont' laugh too hard.........
When I'm getting ready to speak, I have this little ritual...while I am getting dressed, putting my make up on, etc., I put on "Come Fly With Me" by Sinatra and put it on repeat, and listen to it. Sometimes I just whip around the room to it. (And sing it) It pumps me up, puts me in a confident mood. I know, you probably think I should be listening to something more spiritual when I'm getting ready to go preach, but...I'm telling you this works for me. Hey, God can even work through Frank Sinatra believe it or not. There is some redeeming quality about everything I guess.
Puppetmaster I love the sound of Abba, the way their voices blend is amazing! Did you ever listen to the original group of Silverwind? To me they kind of sounded like Abba, only they sang Christian songs...this is way back in the eighties....:
oh and Olivia Newton John is one of my all time favourite female singers...just had to throw that in..hee hee
