Since everyone was commenting yesterday on weight loss and fitness, I thought perhaps we could share some of our favorite healthy foods, for those who may not have discovered them...
I like all veggies, for me that pretty much goes without saying but I am talking grocery store items like - ice cream, snack items, etc.
My absolute favorite are "No Pudge" ice cream treats. They are absolutely to die for. I like the chocolate chocolate brownie ones. I eat at least one a day. They also have brownie batter flavor. DELICIOUS.
I also like Lite & Fit Non-Fat Vanilla Yogurt...very good, and good for you.
And my other two favorite splurges are 2 styles of lean cuisine pizza's - they are spinach mushroom & Marherite style. WONDERFUL. I will eat one of those at least once a week.
As far as fresh veggies go, my favorite right now is fresh asparagus. I make it like our weight watchers teacher does and it's wonderful. I buy 2 bunches of fresh asparagus, wash it and cut the end off about 1/2 way (cut the larger end off). Then I take about 1-2 Tbsp. of olive oil in a frying pan or a wok, and heat it on medium...then when hot, I throw the asparagus in and sprinkle with salt, and sometimes a bit of garlic. Then I cook it and continually stir it (to keep it from burning) until the asparagus is really tender. This is so good. But you have to keep cooking it until it's tender, in my opinion. I don't like it when the asparagus is too firm.
Puppetmaster, what kind of granola do you mix it with? Advise. I'd love to try it.
I also forgot to mention my all time favorite treat is coffee. I drink it healthy - nonfat latte or cappuchino. My favorite is panera bread latte made non-fat milk. I add one Splenda and sprinkle w/cinnamon. It's wonderful!!!
oohh, I love asparagus and I am just now learning to cook it fresh. even My children will eat it fresh. I like veggies especially radishes, slice and eat with a tad of salt. Also I go to a place called Aldi and they have the best frozen fruit bars yummy. When summer comes I can't wait for a plain tomato sandwich and fresh corn. Cucumbers too! xo Ralinda
one of low carb favorite foods was egg crust pizza. You beat two eggs and put them in a shallow cake pan. bake long enough to set . then take it out and make a regular pizza. Totally great and legal with lo carb (which I am not doing but I still eat that sometimes it is so guilt free good) I love sliced apples and bananas with melted peanut butter drizzled over them with raisins sprinkled on top. I promise it tastes like a candy bar. Really satisfies a craving. And a doctor told me if you must have chocolate ( must? I thought it was life or death!) then eat dark chocolate. It is rcher and more satisfying but has lots of health benefits. Yeeha!
Light and tasty magazine is a great publication becuase it isnothing but easy doable recipes.
Deanna - I've been using the Kellogg's lowfat granola from the cereal aisle. It's a bit spendy, but it lasts a long time if you mix it with yogurt, since you only toss in about a handful! DH just bought me a huge bag of the Sam's Club brand that I haven't tried yet, so we'll see...
