unfortunately due to my surgery and us not being totally aware i did not get to vote today or absent vote. My hubby did though! Hope all of you got out there and did your American duty! We lived in Florida during the hanging chads issue with the last election. Every vote counts it really does!

I voted early...no lines, hassle free, etc. at the library. The news said that women who are Republican are not getting out to vote like they should. This will make for an interesting turn out! I received an email pic of Chelsea Clinton with her date and she "supposedly" proposes the question about what he fears most about National Security (you scroll down to see pictures) -
I hope that I am not opening a can of worms here, but I just could not stay quiet on this one. Twoasone (an others as well), I hope that you will take what I am really saying for what it is. I am a bit tired of people refering to Barack Obama in the same category as someone as deplorable as Osama Bin Laden. I do not consider myself to be a Democrat or a Republican. I think that both parties hold stances that I strongly disagree with.
Whether you agree with Barack Obama or not, the man is extremely intelligent, he has a strong family, and he cares about people. I don't see how it is humorous to joke about him being in the same category as a terrorist such as Osama. I just don't think that this is funny.
I am sorry if I have offended some of you. That was not my intent.
To be honest, I haven't followed any of these folks background or campaigns. I thought the rhyming was clever and the joke was cute that's all. A friend sent it and it showed a pic of Chelsea with a soldier as he was supposedly asked what he "fears" most about our national security. He supposedly gave that answer. Like all jokes, it stretches the truth.
I thought your writing re: people not showing the same respect to Mrs. Clinton (even though you do not agree with her views) was a very good point puppet master. I just wish she was a conservative woman because I personally would love to see a woman be the President! I know Deanna has written about Obama and Clinton. We can't get offended by people's sense of humor or opinions: they are like noses, everyone has one and there's always a couple of holes in them. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, just so they are not elevated to universal truths.
From what I gather, Obama has "roots" in a muslim background and that makes people nervous about him. That's all I am aware of. There are those whom question his loyalty (but lets' get real that's a question of most politicians!). Sorry the joke offended you. You're not opening a can of worms. I just thought it was funny. . .especially the "Yo Mama" part . What people think of! I have had the flu and am just killing time ladies, don't mind me.
Just tired of the whole "Republican = Christian" mindset. I'm still very much undecided in this race, but to tell you the truth, Huckabee scares me just as much as Obama! I'm not a fan of extremes...
The NT. teaches not to get caught up in coarse joking or foolish arguments. Please forgive me if it seemed like I was doing either Lady T. We're here to build eachother up not discourage or offend (at least not on purpose).
I really appreciate the honest dialogue on this subject. This has been a great discussion. I was not personally offended by the joke or your comments. I think that sometimes people go to far with these things.
I agree with what puppetmaster stated. I am also a bit nervous about people who are on the extreme of either end of the spectrum. It is amazing to me how people make assumptions and judgements. The whole Republican=Christian thing in my humble opinion is a joke. As a committed Christian, in most elections I feel as though there is not a candidate who stands for what is important to me. This is very frustrating because I am very interested in politics and have been following all of the candidates. At this point I have no idea what I will do when it comes time to vote.
There's no one I'm comfortable with, to be quite honest. Most of them scare the bee-geebies out of me, Obama, Huckabee and Clinton all included.
I am not "for" any of the other candidates, so I do not mean this as an endorsement of anyone but it does kind of concern me the things I have heard about Obama as far as possible ties to Islam and not agreeing to put his hand on a Bible to be sworn in, and requesting the Koran and such. I do not know if these are just rumors but if there is ANY TRUTH, I'm saying, let's run America, as far as we can away from this guy. SCARY!
Not that any of the other candidates are great, but...
I have to ask, if none of that is true, why is he not vehemently denying it and if he has, somebody please give me a link where I can read about it. I'd appreciate it, just for my peace of mind.
Those positions are hard to fill. I do listen to Rush Limbaugh and other conservatives to get filled in; it helps to consult AFO or other Christian coalitions (for me). I pray and just try to pick the best...trusting God for the rest! I lean toward more conservative people as opposed to liberal ones.
My teenage son came in the other day and said: Mom how come you never told me about President Clinton and what he did with that girl in the White House? You tried to keep that from me!" I said, "Son, that was how many years ago? And you were how old? Of course, I wasn't going to get into an discussion with you regarding oral sex! You were too young." (he's 15 now). None of the candidates are going to be perfect. Some professional positions are harder than others even for the Christian! I know that I couldn't be a lawyer. Especially if I knew in my heart my client was guilty; I could not defend him in good conscience. Whomever wins the election, definately needs our prayers ! That business is tough.
I definately always vote because I recall not too long ago when women could not vote. Once with babies in tow during a rain storm, I thought about just "skipping it" but then I remembered all that women have been through in history. Therefore, I make myself go no matter how inconvenient. We are blessed ladies to have the right. Amen.
Just FYI - the whole "Obama was sworn in on the Koran and not the Bible" rumor is not true.
There WAS a senator who requested the Koran and not the Bible that same year, but it was Senator Ralph Ellison (an American who converted to Islam) from my lovely home state of Minnesota :o).
I remember reading editorials for and against him doing this for the weeks leading up to his being sworn in. There were demonstrations...prayer meetings...the whole shebang...called on behalf of this issue. Because he was from the Twin Cities, I was in the thick of it - that is seriously all we heard about for weeks!!!
I'm definitely not all "Go Obama!!" but I did want to set the record straight on that issue!!!!
PM I am glad that you could explain that whole issue about Obama and the Koran with all the details as to what really happened. I think that some people are preying on the fears of others and spreading these rumors because they can. Since we live in a post 9/11 era people are scared to death about terrorism and those who oppose him know this. I think that Obama has denied these rumors and reports, but obviously can't focus his time on chasing the rumor mill.
I saw Obama do an interview on our local news station when he was campaigning in our state. They asked him about being a Muslim. He stated that he is not and has never been a Muslim. He stated that he is a Christian. He is a member of a Christian Church. I question a bit of their doctrine, but they do believe in Jesus and serving their community. I am not "for" Obama either, but I try to be up on everyone so that I can make an informed decision.
There is some info on Wikipedia that has links to other sources that basically sums up the false muslim allegations and how they started. Here is the link:
Thanks LadyT. Wow! This is all very interesting and makes "be careful what you hear" more real. Listen, we all know from experience in ministry that we can't believe everything we hear! It's good to be reminded though! I'm also reminded that Jesus is going to hold us accountable for every idle word; moral of the story: let's be careful what we say (or write). Yikes! I am sorry I started all of this . From here on:
Yes, thanks for that info. Much appreciated. I will feel much better if indeed he would be elected now that I know that.
I have to be honest with you, I'm disappointed in how this election has shaped up. I know no president is going to save us or bring what this country needs (revival). However I do believe who our president is is important.
I have no idea who to vote for. And yes, I've looked over all the candidates carefully. And when I think about it I just feel nothing but confusion. I see some Christians all excited over certain candidates and I think, "Why?" I try to understand their viewpoints but it is kind of crazy to me to get excited about someone who may be pro-life (and I am very pro-life) if they also believe in a bunch of other things I don't believe in. Know what I mean? I just can't so easily dismiss those things and sometimes it's hard.
I will vote simply because it is the right thing to do and many fought for my freedom to vote. But I have to be honest, I have NO IDEA what I'm going to do. I might not have an idea til' I get in the booth.
