I know I had posted earlier looking for roomies, so I thought I should update you on my status...
As much as I would love to go, it doesn't look like it's going to be able to happen this year. My church does pay for me to attend one conference a year, but there is a limit as to how much they can pay. Flying to Florida, paying for a hotel room, meals, etc., is going to exceed that limit, and since DH is still without a job and things are tight for us (yes, I'm sure he'll have something by then, but then we'll have that dreaded "recovery" period!).
To add to that - some of you know that I have never had my driver's license. I grew up in a small town where I could walk everywhere I went - and money was an issue in my house growing up (no $$ for my required behind-the-wheel training!), so I decided to wait until I was 18. Well...18 came and went, and I moved to the big city, where it's more convenient to just take public transportation than to hassle with parking and rush-hour traffic. There I stayed until last year...now, living in a "medium-sized" town, I desperately need a license.
AND, it is extremely difficult to schedule an appointment with the Wisconsin DMV to take a road test, and I was finally able to land one. On September 14th. For the sake of my sanity and my ministry, I need to take that test and pass it (I took it in March and flunked - apparently they don't like it when you make illegal turns, lol!).
I am so sad that I won't get to meet all of you awesome ladies and attend what looks like a fantastic conference. Please keep DH and me in your prayers, as far as his job search goes and my quest to get my driver's license (after that, I'm going to start praying in a car for myself!!).
On the bright side, I found out that a friend of mine is hosting a conference/retreat in September for children's pastors at her church and at a nearby resort - it's only an hour and a half away, and the entire cost will be able to be covered by my church (for me AND my husband!) - so I will get the benefit and refreshing of a conference anyway :o).
