I came in tonight to share this awful thing that's happening to me in my church (woe is me!) and I find that you are dealing with more serious things like infidelity!
My serious and awful thing is that one woman doesn't like my music. When I sing or play the piano she sticks her fingers in her ears and closes her eyes. Mercy...that is so distracting. It's really hard to feel the anointing when you're looking out at a woman two rows back with her fingers in her ears.
After reading your posts, however, I've decided to laugh off her silliness. Maybe I'll pretend her fingers are carrots and she just can't remove them. LOL
Meanwhile, I'll be praying for mega wisdom in dealing with your leadership problem.
You're right, that's small potatoes, nevertheless irritating. I choose to not look at people like that. Focus on those who are positive, or close your eyes. Whatever you do don't be intimidated by her.
Utterly crazy, but not surprising... The unfortunate reality is that she may have some serious spiritual issues that get touched when you sing. The Bible says of our anointing that to some it is the sweet aroma of life and to others it is the odor of death. You really need to spend some time in prayer about that woman and ask the Lord to give you understanding concerning her... In the meantime, ignoring it sounds easy, but it is like a sore toe and trying to walk down the street - for whatever reason that toe sticks out and grabs every piece of concrete... I'll be praying for you!
Thanks for commenting on my "problem." I'm going to try to remain....sweet about it, and stop whining to my husband, but I'll let you know in a few weeks if it's been resolved.
Our lady with fingers in her ears during ANY 'modern worship" is our head deacon's wife! We were told she has been doing this for 15 yrs. It is NOT worth it to make an issue of it.
Thanks, Spiritled Woman, but aren't you embarrassed when you have guests (speakers/singers) who sing modern songs. When we had a guest who shared three songs with us using a CD instead of our musicians, the woman stuck her fingers in her ears and shut her eyes tightly. I wished she'd just go back to the kitchen or something. I just don't want to invite anyone to come in and sing. <sigh>
We do warn people before they come minister.... let's put it like this if we forget t omention it to them they mention it to us after church! It has improved since we have been there because we have chosen to let God actually work on her and not jump in to do it ourselves. I think an advantage I have though is that I am not ministering in the area of music. I know I would be tempted to take it more personally if I were in your shoes but I still think you would be involving yourself in a personal battle if you make a big deal out of it.
Thank you. I've just re-read all the posts on this silly topic and I do appreciate your comments.
I preached at a neighboring church last Sunday and it felt so good to be loved and honored. But, I have a job to do at my home church and it's where God wants me right now. If he has a job for me here, then He'll make a way. Again, thanks. Dell
